If I could rate this 0 stars I would. I filed my taxes with H&R block on April 26 and I am still dealing with their BS.

On my initial apt I spent 2 hours with a woman, her name started with an 'M', which proved to be pretty frustrating. I did my taxes myself last year and I filed for a claim that CRA ended up advising me I was ineligible for. Since then I have been paying them back for the amount that I collected, and this year I vowed to go get them done by a reputable company. H&R block was the wrong decision as these 'trained tax experts' are nothing different than regular citizens trying to figure their way through a tax spreadsheet.

Halfway through our appointment the woman asked me if I was filing for this same claim I was denied last year. I said no and gave her a long, detailed explanation of my history. She said that she's never heard of someone in my situation getting denied for that and it didn't make sense. She then called CRA once and spoke to a woman who said the same thing. I asked them to look into my file and read the notes which they did not do in detail. The rep then explained to me why I WAS eligible for this claim and that I need to go back to CRA and fight them on the claim last year to get my money back. I told her I was still unsure to file for it because I did not want the trouble at which she kind of snickered and said 'why not?' She finished filing and claiming this amount which resulted in me getting double the refund I would have gotten if I didn't claim it.

Now mind you, when I went through this last year I called into CRA probably 15 times to clarify that I wasn't eligible. So she completes all of the paperwork and doesn't mention anything about how I'm paying for this. She then gets a big alert on her screen saying that I owe CRA $400. I tell her that's because I haven't finished paying them for my ineligible claim last year. She advises me that I need to pay that with my refund, call CRA and fight my claim last year to have it reimbursed.

She then asks me to sign the forms I said 'and the payment is coming out of the refund right?' and she said 'oh you wanted it that way?' Uh yes.. You're charging me $200 why would I pay up front? These are things that you should probably ask before you complete everything, and then she fought me for a bit saying she couldn't take it out of my refund. After I told her that it didn't make sense and questioned her further she said I could and re-did all of the paperwork.

Then comes the insurance, which is why I'm still dealing with this. This insurance is plastered all over the branch stating that if CRA comes back and states there is a discrepancy between what H&R block has filed and what CRA deems correct, that H&R block would cover the difference up to $3,000. I SPECIFICALLY asked the lady I was dealing with, 'so if CRA comes back and tells me I am not eligible for this claim again, are you guys covering it?' and she simply said 'yes.'

Now a couple weeks later a woman, Dawn, emails me stating that CRA wants a bit more information from me to prove my claim. I responded telling her this is exactly what they asked me for last year when they reassessed me and came to the conclusion I am not eligible. I am not going around gathering all this nonsense when you can read the notes on my file to say I am ineligible. We went back and forth for 3 weeks where she asked me to send in all of this personal information while I would call CRA and have them leave new notes on my account specifically for her. She continuously told me they were inaccurate or too vague. I wasn't able to resolve this until Thursday when I merged a call between Dawn and CRA, in which Dawn wouldn't even address the CRA rep and her first line was 'I don't know why you would call them Amanda, they don't need to know about our policies (insurance)'.

Anywho, I managed to get her to send me an email admitting that she was wrong and I am indeed ineligible, and I have been calling her supervisor 'Blair' since then to have him address this issue, to which I have not heard back.
